A locking device is a device that uses active means such as a combination lock or key lock to place an energy isolation device in a secure position to prevent the device from being energized. Locking devices include but are not limited to: combination lock or key locks and/or chains, bolt sliding blinds, blank flanges, lockable clasp or locked cabinet for holding the master key.

A Lockout tag device is a Lockout tag firmly attached to the energy isolation device to indicate that the device cannot be activated and cannot be operated.

√ Locks assigned to a specific authorized employee. Personal locks have only one key.
√ Each authorized employee locks his/her personal lock to the energy isolation facility
Definition – Collective lock Collective lock
With the use of locks, the maintenance supervisor places the first lock, the first lock, the last to open the lock. It is still present throughout the repair and maintenance operation. Collective lock is used for operation involving multiple jobs (e.g. riveter and electrician)
Collective locking is the process by which a supervised authorized employee follows the relevant procedures section of this document to lock the device on behalf of a group of authorized employees. The device is intended for use in situations where it is not necessary for each authorized employee to place his or her personal lock on the isolation device, but all authorized employees must sign in and sign out on the isolation registration form
