Notify affected persons prior to commencement
Your execution of LOTO may affect other people. To avoid accidents or other problems, notify all affected people who may be working on the machine before you start the program. If you have not been able to contact the individual machine owner, be sure to track him down and notify them.
Normal downtime

Turn off all controls or put them in their natural place, usually a button, switch. Before you complete the Lockout tagout procedure, hang a warning board on the controller for other people not to start the device. It is important to turn off the power supply to the machine before turning off circuit breakers or other insulating equipment. Because operating this electrical control device under load can cause an explosion.
